Looking for Case Model L
The tractor is a 1934 Case L. It was cut down from steel to rubber. There is no serial number on the engine bellhousing, as the block was replaced many years ago. Another distinguishing feature is the “big sock filter” for the oil. The filter is a little larger than a gallon can and has a row of bolts around the top that you have to take off in order to change the filter. (this might have been replaced) The tractor was bought new by August Martin in 1936 from Anderson’s dealership in Oberlin, Kansas. August traded the tractor (in the 40’s I think). Bus Wurm from Oberlin cut the wheels sown and fitted it with tires. Bus recognized the tractor in John Stratman’s sale in April, 1990 at Wilcox. NE. Wes, John’s son, remembers the tractor and thinks it was sitting in the group out back (the non-runners) but that it was a pretty good tractor at the time. Bus remembers that it was in good shape and thinks it was running at the time of the sale. According from papers from a guy who helped clerk the sale that day, the tractor probably brought $275. Unfortunately, only the bid numbers were record, not the names.
Nik Martin would like to find this tractor. If anyone has any idea for where it is, please call or email his parents, Bob and Laine Martin, 785-322-5563 (home), 785-626-0184 (cell) or liane.martin@hotmail.com (dot in between liane and martin).
